Is a Constitutional amendment like buying a car?

You wouldn’t buy a car on these terms so why are you being asked to vote on a change to the Australian Constitution on the same basis? This video [CLICK HERE] looks at the structure of the proposed constitutional amendment to introduce an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament. It argues that Australians need to be properly informed before taking any decision to change the Australian Constitution. The current proposal would leave the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament entirely in the hands of this Parliament and each and every future Parliament and would not provide any certainty for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples or the wider Australian population.

If Australians are going to make changes to our Constitution then we need to see appropriate drafting that defines the fundamental basis of Government operations. That is why the private not-for-profit organisation, the New Aussie Constitution Trust, is promoting the proposed draft ‘New Aussie Constitution’. the new Aussie Constitution is a fully drafted document that has been developed independently of Government or any political party.

You can find out more about the proposed draft New Aussie Constitution looking around the website. If you like the concept of the New Aussie Constitution, then like and share this video.
